Is Your 2027 Plan Answering Last Year's Questions?

Annual planning has a familiar rhythm. Review what worked, scale it, trim what didn't. That rhythm rewards last year's wins but quietly ignores what changed. Here are three questions most brands ask, and the ones we ask instead.

The Discovery Question

Most brands ask: Which platforms should we prioritize?
We ask: Where is your customer actually making the purchase decisions, and are you there when it happens?

Platform lists are easy to build. Decision paths are harder to map, and they've moved. Adobe Express found 49% of US consumers now use TikTok as a search engine, up from 41% in 2024. Research also found shoppers form intent on social and confirm it on search, and 66% use AI tools to research products. Discovery, research and purchase now happen in different places, often in the same afternoon.

A presence on every platform isn't a strategy. Being there at the moment of decision is.

The Category Question

Most brands ask: What are our competitors doing?
We ask: What does your customer now expect from every brand in your category, and who will deliver it in the most compelling way?

Competitive audits look backward. By the time a competitor's move shows up in a report, the audience has already rewarded it. Category expectations are increasingly set in the feed by creators, not by the category leader. Adobe's data shows 38% of consumers now rely on TikTok influencers for product sales or promotions, up from 25% two years earlier. The standard your audience holds you to is being set by people who aren't on your competitive slide.
Watching competitors tells you where the category was. Watching your audience tells you where it's going.

The Measurement Question

Most brands ask: What helped us reach our KPIs this year?
We ask: Which of your metrics actually predict longer-term growth, and which ones just make the quarterly business report look good?

The pressure for short term proof is real. NIQ found 69% of marketing leaders say their CEO and CFO back long term brand building, down from 80% a year earlier. So plans get optimized for what's easy to attribute, and last click wins every budget conversation.

The answer isn't choosing between brand and performance. It's knowing which signals point to next year's growth and building programs that move them alongside revenue. Ours average 4X ROAS while growing the audiences that make next year's numbers possible.

The Question Behind the Questions

None of these are hard to ask. But they're hard to answer without a partner who lives in the feed, sees across categories, and has the results to back the read.

That's the work we do. Social House brings strategy, creator talent, episodic series, AI creative and media together, so the answers don't live in five different agency decks. Since 2020, our campaigns have driven 3B+ video views across 160+ countries. That didn't come from a better version of last year's plan. It came from asking a different question before the plan was written.

Your 2026 strategy got you here. Your 2027 strategy should be built for where your audience is going next.
